We are very pleased to annouce that we have two speakers for our Mt Gambier November’s Sustainabilty Drinks Event on 20th November 2014. The speakers are Rebecca Phyland from Port Fairy and Rona van der Zander from Melbourne.

rebeccaphylandRebecca’s topic is “Walking the Green Life: Sustainable Communities through the eyes of an Ecologist”

 Rebecca is a ecologist, environmental educator, sustainability consultant and community activist. She utilises these roles, as well as her contacts in the wider community, to enable the establishment of sustainability dialogs with persons in management roles in education, natural resource management, and local businesses.

Rebecca is a trained Climate Leader with The Climate Reality Project, a program of the Australian Conservation Foundation. This Foundation supports a group of diverse and dedicated volunteers who have been personally trained by former US Vice President Gore. Since 2008,her role as a Climate Leader is to work to educate the public about the reality of climate change and promote both local and global solutions.She has  recently been selected as one of 20 Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders to mentor new trainees in the program.

Rebecca is the current Manager of The Port Fairy Community Group a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation that aims to improve social equity, participation and the quality of life of the community through childcare services, adult education and the development and support of local environmental and recreational groups

Rebecca has quietly also established herself as a community philanthropist, founding the not for profit organisation The Pink HEATH Project a few years ago. The Pink HEATH Project supports sustainable women’s initiatives in the areas of Health Environment Art Tradition and Humanity. 

rona-1Rona van der Zander will be speaking on the topic “Sustainability Around The World”

Rona is a young professional with experience in business, as well as humanitarian work.She was born in Germany, but lived, studied and worked in China, France, the United Kingdom and Cambodia, which shaped her truly global mindset. 

 In 2013, she graduated as valedictorian with a high-first class honours in International Business Administration from Nottingham Trent University (double degree France/UK), majoring  Sustainability and CSR. 

 Rona worked with Amnesty International in France and with various NGOs and international corporations in Cambodia and China. 

 She has a profound interest in development and humanitarian work, as well as in the difference businesses can make, through such things as Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability.

After working in Beijing, she relocated to Melbourne in the beginning of 2013. Rona accepted a role in Marketing and Communications to deepen her business understanding and simultaneously started working with Sustainability Drinks Australia.Recently, she got offered the exciting opportunity to undertake a placement with the United Nations Association of Australia.

Scheduled from 6pm-9pm, most of the evening is networking. There is a short presentation from our main speaker at 7pm with guest speakers following.
