Jonathan Wood CroppedThis is our last event for 2013 and we are pleased to announce our speaker: Jonathan Wood, Sustainability and Environment Manager, Crown Melbourne Limited

In 2003 Jonathan started as a Mechanical Engineer and ESD Consultant at Umow Lai & Associates in South Yarra.  In his 5 years there he gained a solid grounding in building services engineering as well as environmental sustainability in the built environment.  During this time he developed the ESD consultancy arm of the organisation (Umow Lai Environment) and delivered a wide range of exciting and innovative projects.  This included 2 of Australia’s first 5-star Green Star buildings – Kangan Batman TAFE and Hume City Council Offices as well as one of Australia’s first 6-star Green Star Fitouts for Umow Lai’s new offices.

In 2007 he headed to London to work for one of their leading Sustainability Consulting Engineering firms, Fulcrum Consulting.  As project leader on a range of projects in the education, health and commercial sectors, Jonathan gained significant insight into how sustainability in the built environment is applied in the UK. As head of Fulcrum’s internal sustainability committee he was also exposed to how sustainability is applied to an organisation’s operations at a micro level.

The seed of Sustainability Management had been sewn in London and he was keen to return to Australia and work for an organisation with a large environmental footprint.  Luckily for him, Crown Melbourne was looking and in 2010 he became their Sustainability & Environment Manager.

Jonathan’s skill set quickly expanded from energy and water in the built environment to include waste, procurement and staff education programs at an operational level.  After a successful 4 years which has seen a reduction in our greenhouse gas emissions intensity of 15% at Crown Melbourne, the future is looking even more exciting as Sustainability is extended to Crown’s Perth and Sydney properties.

Make sure you are there to join in the fun.

An open invitation is extended to all who are “passionate about sustainability” to come and mingle with like minded people and listen to a speaker share their sustainability story.

Scheduled from 6 pm – 8 pm, most of the evening is networking. There is a short presentation and guest speaker at ~7 pm.
